4 steps to franchise successIn this four part blog series we give our very best advice to creating a successful small business franchise. We always notice what makes a home based business successful and pass that information on to our franchisees.

Step 1 | Don’t reinvent the wheel

The good news with buying a commercial franchise is someone has gone before you.  Someone has already tried and failed and tried again.  They already know what works for their business and how to grow it.

They’ve already unlocked the keys to what types of marketing work.  They’ve already discovered all the target markets and they have training.  Any company worth its salt is going to provide excellent, ongoing franchise training.

So why do so many people waste time and energy trying to do all of the above on their own?  One of the fastest roads to creating success in a commercial franchise is to take advantage of those who are already involved with the franchise.

And as far as a corporate entity goes, the more successful you are the better reputation the company will have. You are an investment for corporate.  They should be fully invested in your success.  But you will have to take advantage of what they have to offer.

By taking advantage of the other franchisees experience and utilizing any corporate training available your confidence in your business will grow.  Confidence in your company establishes confidence to your customers.

Every business is different even within a franchise.  You will have different types of clientele in different regions. That’s when you tweak the information you’ve already learned.

And anytime corporate has a convention or seminar, make sure you get there no matter what.  That’s when true connections with other franchisees can happen.  And calling on a friend for advice is always much easier.

Learn how to create your own strategy in step 2.

4 Steps to Guarantee Franchise Business Success – Step 2

4 steps to franchise successIn this four part blog series we give our very best advice to creating a successful small business franchise. We always notice what makes a home based business successful and pass that information on to our franchisees.

Step 2 | Create a strategy

Once you’ve learned all you can about your particular small business franchise, it’s time for some strategic planning. Success won’t happen by accident.  And if you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail. You need to spend a good amount of time at the onset to take what you’ve learned and figure out exactly how you are going to apply it to your business.

Spend time on these 3 different strategies:

The first is your marketing strategy.

You need to balance your marketing both online and offline.  There are very economical ways to build your marketing platform.  You absolutely need a website and should create a social media presence as well.  You have the potential to reach tens of thousands for moments of your time. And surprisingly, you can create an offline presence as well that is relatively inexpensive.  Through smart networking and community involvement you create relationships that will in turn build your referral business.

Secondly, focus on your business strategy.

How will leads, calls, and invoicing be handled?  What are your policies and hours?  Have a solid system in place and tweak from there.

And lastly, don’t forget a follow-up strategy.

This should be in place not just for “shoppers” but for your past clients.  By following up and checking on how your product is performing the client is much more likely to do business with you again, not to mention refer you to friends.  We can’t emphasize this strategy enough.

Step 3 | The Power of Consistency

This is one of the most critical steps of any business not just a home based business.  Once you have your franchise training and fully planned strategies, it becomes your responsibility to consistently work those plans.

But finding the motivation to be consistent over a long period of time can be difficult.  Once you understand the critical importance of consistently working your plans and the benefits that arise, you realize the greater your potential for creating a successful franchise.

By being consistent with your marketing strategy you are constantly adding possible clients to your funnel. Eventually you will begin to see results, but only after a length of time of not letting up from your plan.

When companies and home based businesses try to increase their Google rankings, it is a general rule of thumb that you won’t see results for approximately 3 to 6 months.  Many companies give up quickly thinking they are not progressing when in fact they are. It just takes consistency and time.

The same goes with working your business strategy and your follow-up strategy.  After you purchase a franchise you must consistently work both in order to build a strong reputation for your business.  By creating a strong reputation you increase trust with your target market as well as a strong referral base.

And for any home based business, a strong word of mouth referral system is invaluable.

Step 4 | Creating the Competitive Edge

The last step for creating a successful commercial franchise business is finding the best way to set you apart from all of your competition.

Providing a good product or service in your home based business and providing excellent customer service are the basic minimums in a highly competitive economy.  At the lowest level you must provide a high quality product

What sets you apart is going the extra mile in your small business franchise.  Providing over the top customer service and quality should become your standard, not the exception.

Make certain you are in complete communication with your clients, even if that means delivering bad news on occasion.  People are much more likely to still give you rave reviews in your home based business if you simply keep them informed.  When clients don’t understand a situation or a delay for some reason they won’t keep it to themselves.  And you want to avoid negative referrals.

Another way to set yourself apart from the competition is to keep in contact with your clients, even after a job has been completed.  Following up to make certain the product or service you provided is living up to their expectations.

This also gives you an excellent opportunity to fix any problems that may have come up.  Again, clients may be upset and complaining, but not necessarily contact you concerning the issue.  This happens more frequently than you realize.

And the best way to keep them talking about you in a positive light and separating you from your competitors is to include something extra.  Not something that you advertise, just something that surprises them.  It can be as simple as sending them a handwritten thank you note, or include a free additional product or service.

This, by far, will set you apart and set you up for success.
